Wiffle Ball. A plastic ball with oblong holes cut out of 1/2 + a narrow yellow plastic bat = fun.
Way back when, in high school, a friend of mine and I used to play at least 3 times a week. We played on some tennis courts near his house. We played a version where there [...]
I just finished reading Surviving the Extremes by Kenneth Kamler. I recommend the book to anyone interested in how the body adapts/reacts/copes with extreme environments. The environments specifically discussed in the book are: Jungle, Desert, High Seas, Underwater, High Altitudes, and Space. Amazingly Kamler had personal ancedotes about each and every section! He is a [...]
I know that I am late to the game with this one, but it is pretty cool. Picture yourself a basketball player, playing a team you have not beaten in 10 years, your opponent makes a free-throw to take a 1-point lead, then misses the second. There is 0.6 seconds left, what do you do? [...]
I thought I new all of the NFL rules having watched quite a few games in my life, but tonight I learned a new one. The Fair Catch Kick rule. Very interesting. The implication here is that a team could call a fair catch with no time left in the half or game. Upon successfull [...]
I kind of like and respect Bob Stoops but I
really do loathe the
Big 12 and Oklahoma in particular, so the current Orange Bowl score USC
35 – OU 10 is very pleasing. I am so sick of hearing about OU. go USC!
So I am watching the stupendously awful TV halftime show during
the Sugar Bowl. ABC decides to do a human interest story about a
Virgina Tech player whose brother is deployed in Iraq. They go live to
the brother in Iraq who is sitting in a room with 10 or so other
military personnel. The commentator chats with the [...]
Why do the TV networks insist on having these annoying sideline
reporters at football games? They rarely, if ever, provide any useful
information. They also seem to be about 99.99% female. I view this as a
misguided attempt at trying to include women into the sports TV genre.
If they really want to do this let more women be [...]
Kasparov deciding to draw against Deep Junior, the chess playing computer, rather than trying to win and risk losing, seems quite lame to me. According to the article he was even booed by the audience. Who knew that chess audiences were so passionate?
