Here we go, inaugurating my new semi-regular-whenever-I-feel-like-it feature, Micro Review Minute. A Micro Review Minute, from henceforth referred to as MRM because I find typing Micro Review Minute (ahhh) very awkward, is my very short take on books, albums, movies, whatever. Maybe even more than one per post!

Altmann’s Tongue by Brian Evenson

Wherein the greatest opening sentence to a short story is contained:

Boly seed her the first, her head all the cave in and her leg-split hacked nigh up to her ribs, and said to hisself, Well, now. What have we? “Ye done good,” he told to his dogs, and made for them to sat their buttholes flush to the ground and stay there for him until he tossed them shards of lint-covered jerky fished up from his pocket bottoms.

All of the stories are at the very least good, most of them are great. Images that you will never forget, but not a book for everyone.

The Wavering Knife by Brian Evenson

A bit less outlandish then Altmann’s Tongue but still very good. I read it in a day. Promisekeepers is hilariously disturbing. Male bonding in the name of christ with a dash of wife rape. Evenson is a master of langauge and imagery. He creates unforgettable scenes with a paucity of well-placed words.
