Wiffle Ball. A plastic ball with oblong holes cut out of 1/2 + a narrow yellow plastic bat = fun.
Way back when, in high school, a friend of mine and I used to play at least 3 times a week. We played on some tennis courts near his house. We played a version where there was no base running (there were after all only 2 of us). The magnitude of the hit, measured in distance and deliniated by various landmarks on the tennis courts, determined the type of hit. The further the more bases. Over the fence was a home run. We would play standard 3 strikes 3 outs 9 innings. We each were a team (me the Atlanta Braves, he the Detroit Tigers). We would have to establish a line-up and would have to bat the handedness of each player. This was back in the late 80s early 90s so names such as Cecil Fielder, Travis Fryman, Alan Trammell, Dave Justice, Ron Gant, and Dale Murphy were the players that were batting for us, through us. We are both righties but we good really good at switch hitting. In fact the longest home run either of us ever hit was by me and it was left-handed. I hit it into the pond that was about 20 feet beyond the fence down the “right-field” line of the tennis court. We also kept track of win loss records. Of course we also played Stratomatic baseball!
I really miss playing wiffle ball and need to find someone to play it with me again…. I bet I will be extremely sore if I do play.
